Plan well
- here are just a few tips
Give your self plenty of time to plan,
organise and promote your event.
Make sure you don't clash with a similar
charity event.
Check out whether you need a license - if
you are selling alcohol or playing music or
holding a dance.
Ensure your event is well promoted - use
local radio, newspapers and public notice
boards.
Ensure everyone involved knows their
responsibilities.
Talk to others who have held similar events
- you can gain from their experiences.
Can we help you?
Yes.
Contact us, as soon as
possible in your preparations or at the
ideas stage, for general advice and for
supplies of our poster, merchandise,
collection boxes and sticky badges and
official sponsorship forms.
Be practical
Are there any costs to your
event?
If there are, you will need
to prepare a budget - ENSURE there are no
huge outlays - be confident that you will
make a profit. Where costs are unavoidable,
consideration should be given to attracting
sponsorship from companies to cover these.
Be Safe
We want you to enjoy your
fundraising activities and to stay safe.
Remember: Empty your collection box
regularly and store the funds in a safe
place. Carrying money around for too long is
not secure or wise. Please do not send cash
to the BDFA by post.
If your event involves the
public you will need to make sure that
insurance cover is in place. We now have
annual public liability which will cover
most events subject to you completing a risk
assessment – please contact us about this
early on in your preparations. The BDFA does
not encourage street collections on behalf
of the charity - please only fundraise with
family, friends and organisations you know.
Gift Aid
If an individual donor pays
income Tax, by signing a "Gift Aid"
declaration form the charity can claim back
tax from the Inland Revenue, therefore
increasing the value of the donation.
Please click here for a
simple form to help you collect funds in a
way which will enable us to reclaim the tax.
