Batting for Batten’s

Ascot Underwriting, a market leading global specialty insurance underwriter chose the Batten Disease Family Association (BDFA) to be their charity of the year in 2010.  Their support culminated in “Batting for Batten’s,” a fantastic gala evening in June at Lord’s Cricket Ground.

On the night over 200 people joined together along with Allan Lamb, Andrew Strauss, Angus Fraser, Eoin Morgan, Venetia Williams with others for an evening dinner, with a silent auction, live auction and raffle.  Julie Pickering, chairperson at the BDFA gave a passionate talk on Batten Disease and on the evening over £120,000 was raised to help support the Batten Disease Family Association, of which over half will be dedicated to Batten Disease research.  This funding will now enable the BDFA to fully fund a PhD student undertaking dedicated research on Batten Disease for their three year programme.

Andrew Brooks, CEO of Ascot writes “It is has been an inspiring evening with our corporate sponsors and guests being exceedingly generous in their support of such important work to help those children and young adults affected by this devastating disease.”

Thank you to everyone at Ascot Underwriting for helping to bring light to Batten’s.

Asics British 10K London Run:

On Sunday 11th July 2010 we will have a group of runners taking part in the British London 10K race for the first time.  And if you would like to take part in this race it’s not too late, just register as an individual on the The British London 10K Race website www.thebritish10klondon.co.uk and then call our fundraising Officer who’ll send you out sponsorship forms, a Batten’s T-shirt and information about where we will be on the day.

To help encourage all our runners we do need people to help cheer on the day – Could this be you?  If you’d like to help by wearing a Batten’s t-shirt, banging some thunder sticks together and bringing a bigger voice to Batten’s why not email our Fundraising Officer on fundraising@bdfa-uk.org.uk or call 01603 760111.

We will have spaces again in the London 10K race in 2011 so if you would like to be part of Team Batten’s and run through the major Landmarks of London please do contact the Fundraising Office.

Walk for Batten’s 2010

Our 5th Annual Sponsored Walk for Batten’s took place in Bourton–on-the-Water on Saturday 22nd May 2010.  It was a fantastic day with 137 walkers taking part in either a 5 mile walk or an 11 mile walk.  The walk itself meandered through the beautiful Cotswold countryside and fortunately the weather was kind too, which a day of full sunshine!  This year’s walkers hope to raise between £10-£15,000 to help support the work of the Batten Disease Family Association.  So thank you to everyone who took part in the walk or sponsored a walker – we couldn’t do it without you!

If you would like to help organise our 2011 Walk for Batten’s please contact Georgette Ward, our Fundraising Officer on 01603 760111 or email: fundraising@bdfa-uk.org.uk

There are so many ways and we can ALL make a difference.  So if you have an idea give Georgette Ward, our Fundraising Officer a call on 01603 760111 or email: fundraising@bdfa-uk.org.uk
