This is of
interest to all types of Batten disease. The hope is that Human
Neural Stem cells differentiate and replace degenerated cells. This
is only a safety study for LINCL and INCL but has potentially wider
implications and is "big news for Batten disease".

PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS
WIRE)--Jan. 18, 2008--StemCells, Inc. (NASDAQ:STEM) today provided
an update on the Company's Phase I clinical trial of its proprietary
HuCNS-SC(R) product candidate (purified human neural stem cells).
The trial is designed to evaluate the safety and preliminary
efficacy of HuCNS-SC cells as a potential treatment for infantile
and late infantile neuronal ceroid lipofuscinosis (NCL). NCL, which
is often referred to as Batten disease, is a rare and fatal
neurodegenerative condition afflicting infants and children.
Enrollment and transplantation of all six patients planned for the
trial has been completed.
