  • Clear out your cupboards to sell items on eBay and help raise money for the BDFA at the same time

1 Hour:

  • Approach your local Waitrose store to nominate the BDFA as part of their community green token scheme
  • Create an e-mail signature to encourage your contacts to visit the BDFA's website and help to spread awareness of Batten Disease in the UK
  • Enquire if the company you work for has a Charity of the Year scheme or offers matched funding for your fundraising efforts

2 Hours:

  • Help cheer on Team Batten's in the London 10K Run on Sunday 8th July 2012 @ 9.35am at Trafalgar Square

If you have more time to offer why not consider:

Becoming a Trustee

The BDFA is overseen by a committed Trustee Board who govern the charity and help to guide the charity forward.  Each Trustee has been assigned to a specific role from Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer to being part of the Support, Research or Fundraising sub-committee groups.  Trustee meetings are help quarterly presently at Heather House in Tadley, Hampshire (near Reading) as well as having additional meetings such as our telephone conferences and our Annual General Meeting held at our Family Conference.

If you are interested in finding out more about being a BDFA Trustee e-mail our Charity Manager, Andrea West on info@bdfa-uk.org.uk or call 01252 416110.

Volunteering for a Project

Occassionally we need volunteers to oversee specific charity projects to enhance the work we do.  These projects are usually for a shorter time commitment - so if the idea of volunteer appeals but you don't have the time to commit to being a Trustee perhaps this might be for you.  To see what projects we need support with call our Charity Manager on 01252 416110.

Volunteering your skills

A great example of using your skills to help the BDFA is with Nicola Plumb who has designed our new Walk literatureas well as beautiful eBay and Baking for Batten's posters, our Family Networking scheme information leaflet and more is being designed.  Nicola's style has brought a new freshness to our literature and we are incredibly grateful for her to give her time so generously.  If you have skills that you would like to share with us why not be in touch by e-mailing or calling our charity Manager today.

Nicola writes: "I first heard of the BDFA when my friends son was diagnosed with Batten Disease. Over the years they both, along with their partners and their other children and family and friends have always been actively involved in many fundraising events for BDFA and I too wanted to find a way to show my support which has resulted in offering my services as a graphic designer and contribute in my small way towards the ongoing work of the team at the BDFA."
