The BDFA has worked with many different schools in many different areas. We aim to support all schools with whatever they may need from us.
Each year we run Education Training days at different locations around the UK. These are valuable for staff working with children with Batten disease, not only for more information about the disease but also to network with others in your area working with children with Batten disease.
We also visit schools, observe children in class and give training to smaller teams within the school. We are able to provide specific tips which may work when working with children with Batten disease within the classroom and we are able to answer any questions you may have.
Supporting schools and parents with Education Health and Care Plans is also part of our role. We are able to submit reports for the plans and support schools and parents with what to think about for the future and the information which needs to go into the plans.
The BDFA also provide a free helpline which professionals can call to ask any questions about the disease. If professionals need emotional support they can also call the helpline number and speak to someone about this.
